About Us
A volunteer-driven society devoted to Benicia's beauty, business, and civic life — bringing people together to turn community pride into visible, hands-on service across five connected areas of work.
Our Mission
Benicians Adopting Benicia (BAB) is a community-driven organization dedicated to enhancing the vibrancy, beauty, and spirit of our town. We bring residents, volunteers, businesses, schools, and community partners together, and create meaningful ways for neighbors to serve the place they live.
We recognize the people who serve Benicia, help share the city’s history and charm, and — above all — show up, work together, and leave Benicia better than we found it.
What We Do
Community Collaboration & Partnerships
Uniting volunteers, residents, schools, and local businesses into a network of community support, belonging, and fundraising. We build a roster of volunteers matched to their own skills and interests, encourage partners to collaborate rather than duplicate the same services, and develop annual fundraising campaigns that give Benicia's community work consistent, reliable support.
Championing Youth
Mentoring young people through volunteering and service clubs within our community. We support the Benicia High School Volunteer Club, have adopted Matthew Turner Elementary as a partner school — helping with special events, classroom learning support, and other projects the school identifies — and connect students with meaningful service projects where they can earn volunteer and community service hours.
Beautification
Volunteer-led projects that keep our parks, public spaces, and historic landmarks clean, attractive, and welcoming. We organize cleanups and improvement projects throughout Benicia, partner with the City, local businesses, community organizations, and residents, and seek out the places where volunteer effort can make the most meaningful visual impact.
Honoring Community
Recognizing the military members, first responders, and leaders who dedicate their lives to serve and protect our community. We partner with local veterans organizations to identify needs, honor those who have served our country, and support the programs and events — including our Military Banner Program — that make their dedication visible.
History & Tourism
Sharing Benicia's history, waterfront, and small-town charm with every visitor who passes through. We partner with local organizations and businesses to create experiences that welcome visitors, help promote our historic sites, waterfront downtown, and unique attractions, and support the projects and events that showcase Benicia's rich heritage while growing local tourism.
